Naós Tou Eleuthereus

The exact origin of the mysteries of Dionysos is unknown, but they likely originated in Minoan Crete, then further developed during Mycenaean Greece. Eventually, these practices and beliefs became known as the Orphic Cult, with a focus on the hymns and myths of Orpheus. I call my own personal Dionysian practice Naós Tou Eleuthereus, which means Temple of the Liberator (“Liberator” being an epithet of Dionysos).

As a modern Dionysian cultist, I honor the following three festivals throughout the year:

  • The Lenaia
  • The Anthesteria
  • The Eleusinian Mysteries
